Summary

Warrior supreme Guts, the Black Swordsman, has seen better days -- and more popular -- in the kingdom of Midland, a land he once defended as captain of the Band of the Hawk。 But the Hawks were betrayed and slaughtered, and now the hyolier-than-thou Holy Iron Chain Knights have captured Guts and plan to whip some repentance into him -- literally。 But Guts isn't so easily held at bay, at when he manages to escape with the Holy Knights' leader, Farnese, as his hostage, the demons that are drawn to Guts' Brand of Sacrifice are all too willing to show her the teeming darkness in her own soul!

I hate this little fuck。 I don't even read his panels of dialogue or look at his stupid, cartoonish visage。 It just makes me too angry。 Likewise, Guts continues to be a fairly one dimensional, rather bland protagonist。 I'll never understand the adoration he gets。 He really isn't very interesting, but mainly because Muira lacks the ability to make him anything beyond a rather lifeless, cardboard cut out of other overpowered action heroes。 It is the world (when he actually tries to build upon it) and the art which are the stars here。 Thankfully those two aspects do most of the heavy lifting。 It improved。 I'll keep reading。 But I don't think I'll ever understand or appreciate why people gush over this series。 3。5/5 OmniBen。 。。。more

Brilliant! Like a child from the cradle thrown into the horrors of the night。 Farnese almost get raped by the demon horse, a moment that will form the character arc。 She couldn't believe that there were horrors unfathomable to his orthodox and tyrannical religious ardour。 Brilliant! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 La segunda mitad de este tomo es la más notable, y en cierta medida se siente como un cierre。 Lo cual es interesante teniendo en cuenta que hace años había leído sólo hasta el tomo 15。 Continúo con Guts, ahora con un propósito más claro y con ambas líneas temporales atadas。 Muy entusiasmado por lo que los siguientes 23 tomos me puedan contar。

This was something, its pretty much just Guts escaping from that lady Farnese after she tortures him, a little tussle here and there and the whole thing that follows his escape is something and then he heads back to the mountain to meet with Casca and others and then reaffirming to find Casca as she has disappeared and his last meeting with some others and then heading his own way, meanwhile some plague has hit Windham and the king passes away while in Holy see, we meet Father Mozgus in the St A This was something, its pretty much just Guts escaping from that lady Farnese after she tortures him, a little tussle here and there and the whole thing that follows his escape is something and then he heads back to the mountain to meet with Casca and others and then reaffirming to find Casca as she has disappeared and his last meeting with some others and then heading his own way, meanwhile some plague has hit Windham and the king passes away while in Holy see, we meet Father Mozgus in the St Albion temple and the execution of those who have rebelled against the priest and why is Casca there? Interesting stuff as we see more of the brutality of this world and the terrors that keep coming! Good stuff! 。。。more

The reveal of the torturers was incredible and also one area where I can absolutely see where Dark Souls basically lifted wholecloth from this series。 Fantastic。 Also, I gotta slow my roll on these - I'm nearly halfway through the series to-date and I'm not ready to be out of Berserk material! Back on track after the past few mediocre volumes。 A lot of Berserk has influenced Dark Souls games and it comes out every few volumes。 Aside that, this arc seems like it will be gruesome and entertaining。

Okay! Now we’re back into 5-star territory。What’s it about? There’s been a lot in this series so I’m not gonna try going into all that。 I’d probably accidentally spoil stuff。 Skip! Why it gets 5-stars:The story is very fascinating。 A lot of plot development occurs in this volume。The art, as always in this series, is excellent。 There’s some very good, impressive illustrations throughout in this volume。The characters are well written。 One thing I like about this series is how despite being a fantasy Okay! Holy shit, this book got me。 This book really gets deep into the philosophy and emotions that most revenge action stories don’t get into。There’s some social commentary about how many religious organizations are actually just greedy and cruel but use faith as an excuse even though that’s against what their G/god(s) would truly want in most cases。 I thought it was pretty cool that Miura was able to include commentary about a fucked up reality within a fucked up fictional world。This volume dropped a “holy shit” worthy ending。Overall:I don’t care what the snooters of the world say, comics are literature。 Also, Berserk is a literary masterpiece。 Give me any reason to believe otherwise。 Okay, so art is subjective and everyone sees the same book in different ways but the way I see it, Berserk is a masterpiece! Not only is it a gritty, gory dark fantasy tale of vengeance but also an emotional story that goes in-depth into interesting, well-written characters。Highly recommended!5/5 。。。more
